The field of Engineering applies across several business sectors since the field incorporates process, design, technology, and the management of projects and people. The program highlights the synergism between the application of engineering and management as part of the strategic plan and to sustain competitive advantage.

Learning Outcomes

Westcliff University's Master of Science in Engineering Management program seeks to develop persons who can create, innovate, design, and improve the engineering management industry. Individuals will formulate strategies to manage, and lead a diverse organization of engineers and technologists through in-depth research within the engineering enterprise. The MSEM program makes use of research findings, complex models, and integrates emerging technologies with project management through an objective global viewpoint.

  1. Evaluate the functions of Engineering Management such as planning, organizing, leading, and controlling projects.
  2. Design strategic plans to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness by incorporating value chain-based methodologies into engineering processes.
  3. Analyze, design, and develop processes for increasing the efficacy of manufacturing and production systems through engineering management.
  4. Assemble, construct, and develop teams that are efficient and have the ability to communicate engineering and technical data effectively by implementing project milestones through collaboration.
  5. Formulate strategies to manage and motivate a diverse workforce of engineers and technologists towards the attainment of organizational goals.
  6. Create and develop the ability to conduct in-depth research, independently or within the enterprise in a broad range of engineering, project management, and information and emerging technologies.
  7. Create, innovate, design, and improve engineering management in an ethical and socially responsible way.

Entry Requirement 

Admission Requirements:

The minimum academic requirements to apply to the Master of Science in Engineering Management Degree Program are:

Regular Degree Applicants – An applicant who has a minimum of a Bachelor degree in Engineering or an Engineering-related field can apply for entrance into the MSEM program, or A Bachelor degree with at least 1 course in engineering and/or product or process/quality management and, Resume that lists engineering and/or related field with a minimum of 2 years related experience.

Transfer Applicants (6 credits maximum) – Applicants who have earned credit hours from a regionally or nationally accredited institution may transfer up to 6-semester credits towards MSEM core courses. Transfer credit does not apply to the MSEM Capstone Project course (MSEM 694).

Academic Requirements:

  • Students must complete thirty-six (36) prescribed credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, meet all academic and financial requirements upon graduation, and the fulfillment of all graduation requirements. Students must apply (petition) for graduation and upon approval, students will receive the degree reflecting the coursework completed.
