Course Overview

As part of your chiropractic training, you will study the human body in health and disease, be able to identify abnormalities of human structure and function and manage patients through manual methods. These include manipulation, soft tissue techniques and active rehabilitation.

Clinical experience is a major part of the chiropractic programme. Elements of clinical work are introduced from the start and are carefully integrated to reinforce your academic study. Your final year is a clinical placement, during which you will treat and manage patients with musculoskeletal disorders to develop your clinical skills, confidence and employability.

This is a fully integrated undergraduate Masters degree programme that is accredited by both the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and the European Council on Chiropractic Education (ECCE). This ensures that graduates meet national and international chiropractic accreditation standards and can register with the GCC to practise in the UK.

Our chiropractic degree also meets demanding international chiropractic educational standards and benefits from very advantageous funding arrangements for chiropractic students in the EU. All students on the Chiropractic programme will following core modules which include:

Chiropractors focus on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of problems to the musculoskeletal system (that’s bones, muscles and joints) and the effects of these disorders on the functioning of the nervous system and general health.

Academic Requirements:

Entry criteria detail typical offers but USW considers all applications on an individual basis which means that we could make offers based on qualifications, personal profile and experience. Combinations of qualifications are acceptable and other qualifications not listed may also be acceptable.

Additional requirements

* An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check on the Child & Adult Workforce and Child and Adult Barring Lists and subscription to the DBS Update Service. 

* Evidence of observation of a minimum of 3 hours of a chiropractor in clinical practice.

Please note, applicants who are joining us in September 2021 but who are currently unable to fulfill this requirement in light of the Covid-19 situation, will have this taken into consideration. It will not be necessary to contact us if you are unable to undertake this observation.

 * An IELTS (or equivalent) minimum average score of 6.0 is required for non-UK applicants.

Typical A-Level Offer

ABB - BBC to include Biology and one other Science subject which must be either Chemistry, Psychology, Physical Education, Mathematics or Physics and to exclude General Studies.

Typical Welsh BACC Offer

Pass the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate Diploma with Grade B/C in the Skills Challenge Certificate and AB/BB at A Level to include Biology and one other Science subject which must be either Chemistry, Psychology, Physical Education, Mathematics or Physics, and to exclude General Studies.

Typical BTEC Offer

BTEC Extended Diploma Distinction Distinction Merit - Distinction Merit Merit to include Biology and Chemistry modules

Typical IB Offer

 Pass the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum score of 32 overall including a score of 5 in Biology and one other Science subject at a higher level, and 5 or above in English at standard level

Typical Access to HE Offer

Science  Diploma with 60 credits overall to include 45 levels 3 credits with 18 Distinctions from Science units, a further 24 Merits, and 3 Passes. Other combinations equating to 112 UCAS tariff points are acceptable.

Additional Requirements:

GCSEs: The University normally requires a minimum of 5 GCSEs including Mathematics/Numeracy and English at Grade C or Grade 4 or above, or their equivalent, but consideration is given to individual circumstances. 

English Requirements:

In general, international applicants will need to have achieved an overall IELTS grade of 6.0 with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component.

However, if you have previously studied through the medium of English IELTS might not be required.
