Course Overview

You'll pursue an in-depth study in your area of concentration, choosing from one of three options:

  • Community Health: For individuals who want to work to improve health at a population level. Career options include working with public health agencies, non-profit organizations, and schools.
  • Health & Fitness: The intersection of understanding the business of taking care of our bodies. Students are prepared to be leaders in the booming wellness industry. Career options include working with fitness facilities (personal trainers & managers), corporate wellness programs, coaching, sales & marketing.
  • Sport Management: Applied understanding of facilities, finance, human resource management, law, marketing, media and sales — and how they relate to sports. Includes a minor in Business Administration. Career options include working with collegiate & pro sports, public & private recreation, event management, media organizations, higher education, sales & marketing.

No matter which concentration you choose, you'll engage in a variety of activities to encourage both professional and personal growth. You'll complete practicums and internships connecting you to your future career. Hands-on learning varies by concentration and can include partnerships with local elementary schools, UD Campus Recreation, and Dayton Athletics, needs assessments with community partners, and an annual philanthropy tournament.

Entry Requirement 

Admission Requirements:

Applicants to the University of Dayton Doctor of Physical Therapy program are expected to meet all of the following minimum requirements:

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA across all schools attended.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA for all general prerequisite courses.
  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university prior to the start of the DPT program.
  • Grade of C or better in all prerequisite courses. Grades of C- or lower will not be accepted.
  • Minimum of 64-semester credits and four or more prerequisite science courses with labs must be completed at the time of application.
  • Completion of all prerequisite science courses must be within the past ten years. Science coursework that is older than 10 years will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Advanced Placement (AP) and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) credit will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. For consideration, CLEP and AP credit must be indicated on a college transcript with the course number for which credit was received.

Academic Requirements:

For consideration applicants applying under Early Assurance must meet or exceed the following:

  • Minimum 3.4 cumulative GPA across all schools attended.
  • Minimum 3.4 GPA for all prerequisite science courses.
  • Minimum Official GRE Composite Score of 300 or higher and an Analytical Writing Score of 4 or higher.
  • Completion of Early Assurance school-specific questions.
