Course Overview

You develop a multidisciplinary approach to measuring and analysing activities from sport and exercise. Developing practical data collection techniques from the fields of physiology, psychology and biomechanics, you evaluate the techniques. You also develop your ability to analyse activities from a holistic perspective and prescribe suitable interventions to enhance performance. For your assessment, you produce a 4,000-word report. As part of the report, you write reflectively about the impact of your module on your personal and professional development.

You gain a comprehensive understanding of the theory and practice of applied sport psychology. As well as improving your knowledge and skills, you develop insight and an understanding of the role of the sport psychologist in elite and recreational sport, including both performance enhancement and holistic sport psychology. You explore key issues around providing sports psychology support to individuals and teams. Investigating how to design and implement psychological interventions, you develop an understanding of the ethical issues which underpin professional practice in sport psychology support services. You develop key employability skills including communication, creative problem solving, maintaining professional standards and critical reflection of your own practice. For your assessment, you complete a 4,000-word case study. You build a profile of an athlete, then design and implement an intervention to address the athlete’s needs in an area of performance enhancement.
