Course Overview

We will prepare you to think critically and to solve problems. You can use this strong base of knowledge and skills to understand the world of chemistry around you better and to advance to graduate and professional schools.

Within the context of liberal education, the department provides courses to expose students to the information, knowledge, and methods that the physical sciences have to offer. In general, the purpose of the major is to prepare students for graduate and professional schools as well as for careers in the chemical, biotechnical, or pharmaceutical industries. The department encourages Chemistry majors to fully explore the chemical sciences and allied fields through participation in research, seminars, and science-based clubs and activities. Department advisors assist students in exploring career possibilities and in devising a personalized plan of study that will best prepare them for their career goals.

  • Provide the necessary background in chemistry and physics for students in programs such as pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-physician’s assistant, Biomedical Science, Medical Technology, Nursing, occupational therapy, diagnostic radiological science, and Biology.
  • Engage in scientific inquiry including critical and logical thinking.
  • Instruct students in correct laboratory procedures and assist them in developing an understanding of modern science and technology using state-of-the-art instrumentation.
  • Provide non-science majors with the opportunity to acquire knowledge of materials and technology as explained through the physical sciences.

Entry Requirement 

Admission Requirements:

  1. Submit your High School transcripts translated into the English language.
  2. If your previous institution was outside the United States, you will be required to have a course-by-course evaluation of your transcript. It is recommended that you use the SpanTran evaluation service 
    • We also accept transcripts that have been evaluated by any credential evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
  3. Submit proof of High School completion (diploma)
    • If you are currently still in High School please let us know your expected graduation date
  4. SAT/ACT scores are optional (with the exception of Student-Athletes and Nursing students)
  5. Provide TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, PTE, or ITEP exam results.

Note: This requirement may be waived for students attending International schools.

Undergraduate Commuter Student Fee: $27188

Tuition (12 – 18 credits): $13344 per semester
