Course Overview

The data in our world is currently estimated to be doubling at a rate of every two years. This means that in the next two years alone, the amount of data generated will be equivalent to all of the data that currently exists. Students in data science will acquire a background in mathematics, computer science and statistics along with subject matter from a cognate area such as psychology. Successful students will learn programming in current data science languages such as Python and R as well as being introduced to topics such as Big Data, Data Visualization, and Regression Analysis.

This degree is a unique combination of mathematics and computer science. Students will gain appropriate programming experience in R or Python along with some experience in a subject matter field such as Psychology, Biology, or another area. The goals of the program are to give participants a solid background in Mathematics with training in statistical programming (using R or Python) so that they are ready for entry level data science or analyst positions. Alternatively, students will be well positioned to begin graduate level studies in mathematics, data science or similar programs.
