Course Overview

As the complexity of enterprise systems and critical IT infrastructure continues to grow, there is an emerging demand for highly skilled information-security specialists and sophisticated practitioners in cybersecurity well versed in the science of protecting vital computer networks and electronic infrastructures from attack. These information security professionals require proficiency in a variety of current and emerging technologies — computer and network security, digital forensics, cryptography, web security, biometrics, compliance & legal issues, software security, mobile security, and cloud computing security.

This program satisfies the dual needs of preparing graduates to (1) fill the need for information security and assurance professionals to work in a wide variety of capacities to protect the information systems of different types of organisations, and to support the nation’s information infrastructure and (2) conducting advanced research in information security and assurance. Students develop core competencies in operating systems and networks. They focus on the technical aspects of information security, examining ways to provide secure information processing systems by utilizing operating systems security; distributed secure system architectures; database security; software applications security; security policies; applications security; network and distributed systems security; cryptography; and security protocols.

Entry Requirement 

Admission Requirements:

All international candidates for admission must prove English language proficiency by at least one of the following:

  1. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum score of 45 iBT
  2. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - minimum score of 5.0
  3. Pearson Test of English Academics (PTE A) - minimum score of 35
  4. Successful completion of ELS Level 109
  5. For transfer students, two semesters with grades of B or higher in English composition courses at regionally accredited post-secondary institutions in the United States
  6. Successful completion of a NAFSA-recognized ESL program
  7. Duolingo English Test - minimum score of 75
  8. Students who meet these requirements are eligible for admission to Saint Leo University through the Bridge Program. Undergraduate students will be required to utilize elective credits for English courses and graduate students will be required to take the foundation component of their program. Student’s English Proficiency scores will determine placement into the Bridge program.
  9. Students may be exempt from the Bridge program if English proficiency scores meet or exceeds one of the following: TOEFL 79 iBT (Minimum 19 subscores), IELTS 6.5 (Minimum 6.0 band scores), PTE A 53 (Minimum 52 band scores), ELS Level 112, or Duolingo 105.

    Saint Leo University reserves the right to require a student to take Bridge classes to increase English proficiency in a particular area, regardless of total test scores. Other English language examination results will also be considered, and experience studying in the English language, as documented through school transcripts, will be taken into consideration.
