Course Overview

This exciting new four-year integrated master’s course will equip you with the expertise and practical skills that you need to work as a registered physiotherapist in the private or public health and social care sector. You’ll thrive in our supportive environment and benefit from placements each year.

Physiotherapists work in a wide range of settings and focus on the management and prevention of problems relating to movement and function across the lifespan.

Physiotherapy is a career where every day you can make a difference to people’s lives. It will be your expertise and empathy that will help them regain movement and function following an injury, illness or other disability.

In Year One you will study the basic and applied sciences that underpin physiotherapy.

In Year Two you will develop patient management and therapeutic skills.

In Year Three You will broaden your awareness of healthcare and challenge your understanding of multidisciplinary working and active citizenship.

Part of your learning will take place in a variety of real health and social care settings. You will work (supported by a registered physiotherapist) with patients, their carers and families, and with other health and social care professionals. These practice-based placements are invaluable and will enrich your learning in all levels of the course. You may be placed at sites across Scotland, and will be required to cover any associated travel and accommodation costs.

In the final year, you’ll work collaboratively in small groups on a research project. All project teams will have a dedicated supervisor to guide the process.

We have implemented an interprofessional education (IPE) focus within all of our undergraduate healthcare courses, including this one, to help produce graduates who are confident in their own professional identity but with additional skills that will allow them to work as effective team members.

Physiotherapy is a demanding course and we recommend that you research the career thoroughly and consider work shadowing before you come to QMU.
