Course Overview

The Program of Study aims to provide Cyprus and the surrounding region with scientists who will be specialists in various areas of pharmacy. More specifically, scientists will be specialized in the development and control of drugs and will be able to successfully work in the pharmaceutical industry. Our aim is not only to enable them to respond as specialists in the area of pharmacy but also to be capable to provide the public with responsible, scientific, and accurate advice on drug use and safety, on drug-drug and drug-food interaction, and advice on narcotics and poisons. Moreover, graduates of this Program will be specialists in areas of drug design, development, production, and control, as well as of cosmetics. Furthermore, they will be specialized in the development and use of the local pharmaceutical flora and its agricultural, commercial and scientific exploitation.

 Learning Outcomes

  1. To offer students knowledge and skills for employment in the private and public sector as professional pharmacists with specific qualifications.
  2. To provide an integrated academic and practical background in pharmacy in order to adapt to rapid scientific and technological advancements.
  3. To provide the students with the necessary means rendering them capable to perform research of high quality.
  4. To introduce the students in the modern pharmaceutical industry, hospitals and public services.
  5. To educate the students so that they undertake an active role in the protection and safety of the natural and social environment from the use of bioactive products.
  6. To apply the practical experience in order to reinforce their theoretical knowledge involving their role as advisors to contemporary social problems such as addiction and use of narcotics, poisoning, etc.
  7. To develop assessment and evaluation skills in the drug industry and market.
  8. To develop the ability to reason methodically and abstractly, in order to foresee trends in pharmacotherapy, drug innovation, production, drug use and misuse.
  9. To introduce students in the modern pharmaceutical environments, pharmaceutical business, hospitals and government offices.

Entry Requirement 

Admission Requirements:

Candidates for a bachelor's degree program should submit a school leaving certificate from a recognized six-form secondary school (high school) with an average grade of 75% (Greek Cypriot secondary schools) or a grade “C” or its equivalent (other secondary schools), or equivalent qualification. Candidates who submit a six-form secondary school leaving certificate but do not meet the above grade requirements may be admitted on probationary status if they show potential for educational advancement. The probationary status will be removed, subject to satisfactory academic performance. Candidates admitted on probationary status may also be asked to enroll in foundation courses in order to improve their skills and/or to take a reduced load.

Freshman Admission

Refers to candidates who are applying directly from the secondary school and have no previous additional or university education experience.

Transfer Admission

Candidates who have graduated from a recognized six-form secondary school, and have completed university-level work in an accredited program at an institution other than Frederick University, are eligible to apply for transfer admission. Such candidates should, along with their application form, submit the following documents:

  • A six-form secondary school (high school) leaving certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Official transcripts (grade reports) and syllabi (course descriptions) for all University coursework taken to date.

Transcripts are evaluated by the relevant department to determine the number of credits to be transferred in accordance with the Frederick University curriculum requirements and the candidate's academic performance.

Transfer students regardless of the number of credits transferred should complete at least half of the ECTS credits required by the program of study at Frederick University in order to be eligible to graduate. For a 4-year 240 ECTS program, a transfer student must complete a minimum of two years of full-time study (120 ECTS) at Frederick University in order to be eligible to graduate.

English Language Requirements:

Students whose native language is not English will have to take the Frederick University English Placement Test (FUEPT). Students who are qualified for exemption from the English Language Courses should apply to the Center of Languages with the necessary documentation.

Students who are not competent in the English language are required to take special English classes to improve their skills and, when necessary, they will take a reduced load for that semester. Students who may need more vigorous preparation will take an intensive course in English before enrolling in a regular program. Intensive courses commence at the beginning of the fall and the spring semesters.
