Course Overview

BSc (Hons) in Sociology examines the organisation of contemporary societies and explores the opportunities and structural inequalities that define our everyday lives. You will have the opportunity to study topics such as the following:

  • Social class and social mobility
  • 'Race' and ethnicity
  • Gender
  • Culture
  • Identity
  • Inequality and intersectionality
  • Migration
  • Media
  • Crime and criminology.

You will have the opportunity to appreciate the complex interplay between local and global forces, with particular reference to life in the 21st-century metropolis, which  - in our case - is London. This course will develop your critical thinking and skills in the analysis, interpretation and production of social data.

Entry Requirement 

Course Requirements:

'A' Level

  • Grades BBB or 120 UCAS tariff points
  • A-Level General Studies and 'A' Level Critical Studies are not accepted
  • GCSE English Language and Mathematics at grade 4 (C) or equivalent are also required.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

  • 29 points, 5,5,5 from three Higher Level subjects (no specific subjects required).

Access to Higher Education

A typical offer for an Access applicant would be: Pass 60 credits, 45 Level 3 including at least 27 at distinction and the remaining 18 at merit. The Access qualification should be supplemented by at least a grade 4 (C) in Mathematics and  English Language at GCSE.

English Language Requirements:

If your first language is not English, we will require evidence of English language proficiency. The minimum requirement is

  • Cambridge ESOL: CPE grade C or above
  • PTE Academic: 59 overall with a minimum of 59 in each component.
