What's covered in the course?

Speech and language therapists support people of all ages who have communication and/or swallowing difficulties. Delivered at the West Midlands’ only training site for speech and language therapists, this course is designed to prepare you to achieve excellence and professional autonomy in clinical practice.

You will learn through a variety of formats, including workshops, interactive lectures, and simulation sessions, at our recently extended £71 million campus, with state-of-the-art facilities. You will also benefit from the Virtual Case Creator (VCC), which enables us to simulate clinical scenarios in a virtual environment.

Throughout the course, you will develop your understanding of research and evidence-based practice, so that you can contribute to the future development of the speech and language therapy profession.

Scottish Intermediate 2

IELTS
  • Applicants who have not received their secondary school education in English will require an overall IELTS score of 7.5, with no subtest below 7
  • To register with the Health and Care Professions Council applicants for whom English is not a first language will require an overall IELTS score of 8, with no subtest below 7.5
  • If English is studied at GCSE Level but as a second language, IELTs must be completed to qualify for UK L2 requirement

  • If applying with an Access course you only need GCSE mathematics and English language at grade C/4 or above. You are not required to hold five GCSEs in total.

Irish Leaving Certificate (Highers)
  • Pass the Irish Leaving Certificate with a minimum of 120 tariff points, achieved in five Higher level subjects. This must include Maths and English Language taken at either Ordinary level (minimum grade O1-O4 (or A-C/A1-C3)) or Higher level (minimum grade H1-H7 (or A-D/A1-D3))

  • Where a combination of Highers and Advanced Highers have been taken you must achieve (grades of CC in two Advanced Highers plus grades of CC in two Highers).

T-Levels
  • 120 UCAS points (Merit overall)
  • Must be in either Healthcare Science or Science

6.0 overall with 5.5 minimum in all bands

If you do not meet the required IELTS score, you may be eligible for one of our pre-sessional English courses. Please note that you must have a Secure English Language Test (SELT) to study on the pre-sessional English course.
