Course Overview

As a Middle-Level Teacher Education student, you are required to choose two subject areas in which to focus your studies. These concentration areas are supplemented with additional courses from related disciplines. Illinois State is the only middle-level program in Illinois that requires candidates to have two content areas, giving our graduates greater flexibility in pursuing teaching opportunities and encourages graduates to consider cross-curricular teaching and learning experiences for their pupils.

Middle-Level Teacher Education is a vibrant, innovative program that prepares the majority of highly trained candidates for Illinois middle-level schools. New candidates become part of the 60-year history of middle-level education at Illinois State.

Why study Middle-Level Teacher Education?

Middle school teachers facilitate the transition from childhood to young adulthood. They help students delve more deeply into the subject matter and learn more about themselves and the world.
